Working with the Ely & East Cambs Chamber of Commerce, Ely Cathedral Business Group,  Federation of Small Businesses, and East Cambridgeshire District Council East Cambridgeshire Climate Network is exploring the possibilities of establishing a “Business Green Group”. The aim is to stimulate and facilitate a better understanding amongst Small and Medium Enterprises in East Cambridgeshire of the Government’s target of making the UK Net Zero by 2050.

Aim

To ensure that all East Cambridgeshire businesses are fully equipped to meet the legally binding challenges of achieving UK Net Zero by 2050 and that East Cambridgeshire becomes a fertile area for the development of existing and new Cleantech and Environment low carbon businesses.

Background

Following on from the British Chamber of Commerce’s (BCC) recently published report “Climate Call to Action – Research Report” of the BCC survey of 1000 businesses, it found that nine out of 10 don’t fully understand what the Government’s target of making the UK Net Zero by 2050 means for them. Anectonal evidence also seems to suggest that the uptake by East Cambridgeshire businesses, of recent free Low carbon Business Support Workshops run in partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council, has been poor.

Thus, there is a need for some sort of initiative to increase the uptake of East Cambridgeshire businesses’ understanding and acting upon their Net Zero commitments by 2050 or earlier.
