West Curve Care Home Proposal: Potential Threat to Local Wildlife Sites

Feedback is currently being sought for a proposed 67-bed care home to be built on a greenfield site next to the Ely Sailing Club, adjacent to the Roswell Pits Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). An access road will be built through woodland on Prickwillow road. The deadline for feedback is Thursday 11th April.

From the information on the website and the public consultation event held at the Maltings on 28/03, it is clear very little consideration is being given to the wildlife that uses the proposed site (including protected species such as Barn Owls and bats), the impacts on Roswell Pits SSSI (e.g. light pollution), or the benefit local people derive from walking through the area on their way to Queen Adelaide. There are far better places in Ely for this care home to be located in terms of impact on biodiversity and sustainable transport links for staff and visitors.

If you would like to provide feedback on this proposal please use this link https://westcurvecarehome.co.uk/welcome/. The developer plans to submit its planning application to ECDC in early May 2024 so providing input at this stage is hopefully a way to persuade the developer to consider a different site.
