Two new Zero Bills estates to be built in 2026, following Octopus and Barratt Redrow partnership

Octopus Energy has partnered with Barrat Redrow, the UK’s largest housebuilder, to expand its Zero Bills concept, promising ‘high-quality, sustainable homes, where residents won’t pay a penny for their home energy bills for 10 years.’

The first 54 Zero Bills homes built by Barratt Redrow will be completed this year in two sites in Wixams, Bedfordshire and Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire respectively. Octopus said both further potential Zero Bills sites across the UK are being explored by the partners.

The Zero Bills tariff, launched in 2022, is claimed to be the world’s first tariff that provides owners with a home including a heat pump, a battery and solar panels and guaranteeing no home energy bills for at least 5-10 years, if certain criteria are met.

In November. Octopus Capital raised £100m funding via its Affordable Housing Fund which will unlock more than 1,000 Zero Bills homes across England and Scotland, the firm said.

The energy provider says it has now approved over 5,000 Zero Bills homes through partnerships with leading developers, ranging across affordable and private rental housiing, plus private and shared ownership properties.

The company aims to deliver 100,000 Zero Bills homes by 2030, and has already rolled out the initiative in Germany, France and New Zealand.
