Open Eco Homes 2023

Organised by Cambridge Carbon Footprint Open Eco Homes season 2023 is off to a great start with record bookings so far, and it’s a true reflection of the vital partnership between you and us.

With more open eco-homes across Cambridgeshire than ever before, we are excited to showcase how age and location should not be a barrier to creating comfortable, energy-efficient homes, and highlight how you too can reduce fossil fuel dependency. So why not take a trip to discover these beautiful villages and meet the homeowners who have created their inspirational homes?  Read more in this fantastic article by Sarah Lonsdale of the Sunday Times.

In addition to our home tours, Cambridge Carbon Footprint is  hosting four online talks with expert advice on how Low Carbon HeatingLow-Cost Solutions and how the Cambridge Retrofit Guide could help you, and we’ll hear empirical advice from experienced eco-homeowners who have a decade’s worth of knowledge and skills to share. And we’ll be offering a Human Library event on 21st October focused specifically on Home Energy. It will provide anyone interested with the opportunity to sit down a human book/impartial home energy expert to find out more about air source heat pumps, solar,  going electric, eco home design and retrofit planning and more.

In another first for OEH, we will be delving into the subject of homelessness to see how super-efficient SoloHaus modular homes have been used by Jimmy’s to provide those in need with a place to call their own. In-person tours of these totally complete and sustainable dwellings are being held at the developer’s – The Hill Group – show-home in Ickleton.  This is a unique opportunity to look in greater detail at how this has been achieved and the benefits these homes can offer. Residents are on hand to share their experiences and you’ll see how projects to implement these homes elsewhere are being rolled out nationally to help to provide solutions for those interested in homelessness, social housing, and mental health.
