An Introduction to Council Climate Action Scorecards
Thursday 27 February 2025 @ 19:00 hrs - 20:00 hrs
Climate Emergency UK (CE UK) was set up in response to the climate emergency declarations that councils started making from the end of 2018. CE UK began by collecting these declarations, and the Climate Action Plans that followed, on its website. CE UK then turned them into Council Climate Action Scorecards which are an assessment on all UK councils on the actions they’ve taken towards net zero. The Scorecard assessment consists of 91 questions or less, depending on council type, across 7 different sections, created in consultation with over 90 different organisations and individuals. Each council is marked against this criteria with a team of volunteers, then each council is given a right to reply before the scores undergo a final audit. The most recent Scorecards were created and published in 2023.
East Cambridgeshire District Council took their results seriously as it provides an assessment of how well the Council is doing compared to similar types of Councils. The assessment is now taking place and the next Scorecards will be published in the summer of 2025.
This online workshop will provide an introduction to the way in which the data has been collected, how they have been marked and what local parish councils and community groups can do to hold the District, County and Combined Authority to account in terms of reaching Net Zero.
