Repair Cafe in Ely Library will help you save money & reduce your impact on the environment
Do you have something that’s broken that you don’t know how to fix but can’t bring yourself to throw away? Something like a toaster, kettle, lamp, bag, toy, jewellery, pair of jeans or computer? Bring it along to the Repair Cafe being held on Saturday 27 January from 11.00am – 2.00pm in Ely Library and get it seen to by an experienced volunteer repairer for free. They will pinpoint the problem and try to fix it there and then for you, or let you know what spare parts to get for when you come back next time.
Repair Cafes are a great way to save money – with households spending about £35 a week on items that can be repaired including clothes, furniture, computers, electrical items. They are great at reducing waste and emissions by extending the life of items. The average Repair Cafe saves 450kg CO2, about the same as driving from Land’s End to John o’ Groats and back again.
Repair Cafes bring people together. Our repairers are keen to share their skills, stop things going to landfill and reduce the impact that buying new stuff has on the environment. In the UK we produce the second highest amount of e-waste per person in the world.
We’re looking for repairers to help us on the day and at future cafes. Whether you’re an electrical repairer, a keen sewer, or someone who likes fixing things and wants to learn from more experienced repairers, we would love to hear from you. Get in touch with us at email@example.com.
Please note that our repairers may not always be able to fix things, but will try their best.
