Rights of Rivers with Hogan Lovells Webinar

Join us for the first of a series of webinars from Hogan Lovells exploring the global movement to recognise the Rights of Rivers and how rivers’ rights can be recognised in the UK.

With a focus on case studies and practical steps, we’ll examine how rivers’ rights such as the right to flow, to be free from pollution, and to sustain ecosystems are being recognised and incorporated by local councils into their decision-making processes to protect local rivers and ecosystems. We’ll also look at how the potential reorganisation at local authority level is accelerating this process and what might be done in the future to bestow legal personhood on Nature, including rivers via byelaws or even national legislation. We’ll share toolkits (from King’s College and others) and explore how local campaigners and councils can work together with organisations like The Rivers Trust to share experiences, best direct efforts and promote consistency.
