Transforming Excess Tech into Social Value Across Cambridgeshire

Connecting Cambridgeshire has partnered with Sustainable Tech 4 Good (ST4G) – who’ve been using excess tech to address digital inclusion since 2020 – to offer a pathway for businesses and organisations in Cambridgeshire to securely erase, refurbish and
repurpose their excess tech – supporting social good and digital inclusion across the county.

The partnership between Connecting Cambridgeshire and ST4G engages with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough-based businesses and organisations, taking all their excess tech post-upgrade, including devices, networking equipment and servers. After data-secure refurbishment by ST4G, legacy devices are redeployed through Connecting Cambridgeshire to help people in need, addressing digital inclusion. Tech that retains value is purchased through the ST4G solution and resold as affordable, sustainable items via ST4G’s Tech 4 Change online sales platform. Charities that partner with ST4G can receive further tech donations generated by Tech 4 Change sales, extending digital inclusion through local charities/NFPs in Cambridgeshire. The Connecting Cambridgeshire-ST4G partnership promotes sustainability while facilitating and driving more digital inclusion across the County.

Corporate Social Responsibility/ESG

Repurposing your excess tech though ST4G enables digitally excluded individuals to access devices, supporting your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals. A Digital Inclusion Report will be sent to you quarterly by ST4G, showing the positive effects your repurposed tech is having on people’s lives.

Sustainability goals

Refurbishing your excess tech for reuse helps reduce the negative environmental impact of electronic waste (65 million tonnes per year and growing), while conserving resources and cutting CO2 emissions. This helps you reach your sustainability goals. A Sustainability Report will be sent quarterly to your organisation by ST4G, showing the environmental impacts mitigated through the reuse of your excess tech.

Data Security

ST4G was born out of a specialist data company and is expert at secure data handling and erasure. Data on all collected devices is securely erased to HMG Infosec 5 Enhanced Standard and you will receive a Data Erasure Certificate (by device), covering your GDPR responsibilities and protecting you against data breach.
